It is time...

Okay, so I figure it's about time I get off my bum and actually update this thing. Since there are so many posts to catch up on I'm going for at least 1 update a day until we get caught up. I know this doesn't sound like much. Unfortunatly nearly every moment of computer time that I have to check my e-mail, update and see whateveryone's doing on Facebook, look up stuff, or try to work on Primary stuff or pretty much anything else, comes as the result of a battle between Ryan and I for it. He's pretty much addicted to PBSkids.org I'm working on breaking him of it. I'm still torn though because it does keep him nicely occupied and he's learned quite a bit from it. They really have some terriffic games. Anyways, so I am hoping to actually catch up soon!

Wellwood Strawberries

Once again it's berry season! Unfortunately the kids and I only had about 40 minutes up at Wellwood to grab some strawberries. I had planned on going back but as usual the summer's just been a little too crazy and it didn't happen. At least we can look forward to getting to go back for blueberries and raspberries!

Last Day of Kindergarten

Alicia ended the year with exceptional marks. Since she's let out she's really missed time with her friends and gotten bored just being around the house but Ryan's been glad to have her home and I think she's enjoyed having a little bit of down time. She's pretty worried about being ready for 1st grade and we've spent some time working on reading and things like that to help her feel more comfortable. The most unfortunate thing is that we found out just a bit ago that due to some unfortunate circumstances the teacher she had for Kindergarten, Mrs. Becky Austin is moving away and won't be at the school next year.

Kindergarten Awards Ceremonies

Alicia really had a great year in Kindergarten. As I mentioned before the children periodically get "Best Works" Awards for the work that they do and "Good Citizen" Awards for following school rules and being helpful. Alicia ended the year with 3 Best Works and 2 Good Citizens and couldn't have been happier. Alicia receiving her final Best Works award from Interim Principle Don Heart.

Kindergarten Field Trips

The end of the year was simply jam packed and a month after school's out and I'm just now recovering and realizing that before I know it everything will be in full swing again!

This year Alicia's class had 5 special field trip days.

1st Field Trip: Wellwood Orchards/Woods Cider Mill
This one was actually way back in October and I didn't make it to this one so I don't have pictures, but the kids from both Kindergarten classes had a blast up at Wellwood Orchards and Woods Cider Mill picking apples and seeing the cider press. I'm not sure if Alicia enjoyed the apples or getting to see our friends that own the cider mill more. Just the week before Alicia had been spotlighted and chosen our friend Marina whose family runs the mill as the person she admired so the class got to meet her and it was a lot of fun.

2nd Field Trip: Tour of old Weathersfield School Houses/Weathersfield Historical SocietyAlicia's favorite part of this trip was getting to meet the Weathersfield Panther. This panther is quite old and has become part of the Weathersfield legends. I thought it was interesting that this was her favorite part because when I was just a little older than she is I became obsessed with researching the Florida Panther and have since then always held a fondness for the big cats.

3rd Field Trip: Ascutney Mountain Hospital/Simon Pierce Glass and Pottery Factory/Local Farm.
11 Kids, 3 Adults through Simon Pierce was an experience not to be forgotten. I really have to say I can't believe how well they did. The kids loved seeing them use time honored techniques to create beautiful works of art. They even came up with a bag of clay that was divided up for the kids to bring home and have some fun with. The kids also had the opportunity to tour through one of our local hospitals and see many of the different ways that people can be helped there. After we had lunch we got to go to a local farm that raises cattle and other animals. The kids had fun with the animals - especially some young ducks/geese that decided to follow them around.

4th Field Trip: School Field Day at Echo LakeThis was a field trip for the entire school K-8 and included many parents and siblings as well. It was cold, crazy and fun. Alicia decided (thankfully) to opt out of the water because it was freezing even dry with our sweaters on. I drove up with another mom friend and we brought Ryan and her youngest along for the day. The girls rode up on the busses but decided to relax and come home with us. I think everyone was worn out by the end of the day!

5th Field Trip: Pet Store/Wal-Mart/Pizza Hut
Sound a little unusual? It was. The day was so crazy I didn't even get to break out the camera! The kids had a lot of fun though. Their last science module dealt with oceans and water so in the pet store we got to look at all of the animals, talk about where they lived and which ones were our favorites etc. Alicia was especially excited because in the reptile room they had a baby boa constrictor and she had just memorized and recited Boa Constrictor by Shell Silverstein for school. After the pet store we went to WalMart and purchased a variety of supplies some of it was for soldiers and their familes. The rest was part of a program called Share Our World where the kids purchased a variety of personal care items and school supplies to send to other parts of the world that have a need. It was really interesting to see the kids trying to work through getting the things they wanted on a budget. Lastly the kids had a blast at Pizza Hut at the all you can eat Buffet as a reward for all of the reading that they've done this year. Once again, the kids really impressed me with their good behavior while they still had a good time.

I'm just so thankful to the wondeful friends who stepped in and took care of Ryan during so much of this and allowed me a little time to just be "Alicia's Mommy."

As Seen and Heard: Ry on his Secret Superhero Identity

Alicia: So Ryan, are you Superman, Spiderman, or Indiana Jones?

Ryan: I Spiderman, Superman, Indiana Jones, Batman, Robin, Bad Guy, Bad Guy, and Bad Guy.

I'm not exactly sure if it's his way of trying to hide his Superhero Identity or if he's just having an identity crisis. Although if I could believe that all of those characters were to be found in one person - it would be Ry

Detective Mom and the Case of the Missing Diaper

Just because I know I'm going to need material for embarrassment when Ry gets older...

The Case - 9 PM - Arrive home from a regular Wednesday night up at the church. 9:05 Prepare to change diaper and get one squirming 3 year old to bed only to find (dum dum dum....) beneath his pants - there's no diaper to be changed.

The Witnesses - Dad says he knows for sure that diaper was in place at an earlier point of the evening but he had smelled something funny in the hall of the church. Alicia says that she didn't see anything but Ry had disappeared for a while.

Detective Mom's conclusion - we had better check the church after dropping Alicia off at school the next morning and look for more information. This could get stinky.

Case Continued - 8 AM Thursday Morning - back at church, trashbag, lysol, and carpet cleaner in hand. 8:20 Only evidence of unusual behavior was an extreme amount of t.p. in one of the toilets of the ladies bathroom - still no diaper. Need more information. 2:00 P.M. Spoken with most likely suspects to have removed evidence - greatful that they know nothing of the event otherwise I'm sure great amounts of strawberries and chocolate would have been necessary. 2:30 Check the church again, still no sign of any fowl play.

Case Conclusion - Still an unconclusive mystery but most likely theory is that Ry might have actually taken a shot at the bathroom all by himself, including putting the diaper in the trash and getting his pants and shoes back on. Personally I think he did it just to taunt me with the fact that he still refuses to use the one at home.
